As you probably realize, staying on Zanzibar (or any of Tanzania's islands) is generally a lot cheaper than being on safari. Don't forget to look at the options on Mafia Island also if any of your party are serious divers or snorkellers; Mafia doesn't have the same quality of beaches … but it's a lot quieter than Zanzibar, and can have a much more exclusive feel for a similar cost.

Tanzania launches Electronic visa and residence permit services  

Foreigners can now apply for an Online Visa and Permits for their visit or longer stay in visit the United Republic of Tanzania (both Tanzania Mainland and Zanzibar). Currently, visitors who can make electronic applications are only those entering Tanzania through the following 5 Entry Points; 1. Julius Nyerere International Airport (JNIA) Dar es Salaam, 2. Kilimanjaro International Airport (KIA), Arusha; 3. Abeid Amani Karume International Airport; 4. Namanga Border from Kenya and 5. Tunduma from Zambia. 

Please visit the Immigration website in order to;

  1. Fill online visa application form   or
  2. Fill online permit application form
Make payment, and Submit your application online. Applicants may as well be required to visit the nearest Tanzanian Embassies or Consular Offices for interviews.

Please consider the following;

  1. Types of Visa
  2. Required documents
  3. Countries whose citizens do not require visa on entry
  4. Countries whose citizens require approval by the Tanzania Commissioner General of Immigration.

Visa Applications at the Embassy of Tanzania, Stockholm:

Foreigners who wish to submit their applications at the Embassy are still welcome until all entry points are able to process electronic visa or permit applications. Processing of Visa Applications at the Embassy of Tanzania in Stockholm is from: 09.30 to 15.00hrs.
